Giovanni Alejandro Reyna (born November 13, 2002) is an American professional soccer player who plays for Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach and the United States national team. He began his youth career with New York City FC and had his breakthrough with Borussia Dortmund.

⚽ Early Career and Records

Reyna made his Bundesliga debut for Borussia Dortmund on January 18, 2020, becoming the youngest American ever to appear in the Bundesliga. On February 4, 2020, he scored his first professional goal in the DFB-Pokal, becoming the youngest goalscorer in German Cup history.

In October 2020, Reyna became the first American to record a hat trick of assists in one of the five major European leagues since 2008. He was voted U.S. Soccer’s Young Male Player of the Year for 2020.

🏅 Club Achievements and Transfers

Reyna was part of the Borussia Dortmund team that won the 2020–21 DFB-Pokal. He was on the final shortlist of the 2021 Kopa Trophy. On January 31, 2024, he extended his contract with Dortmund until 2026 and was loaned to Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

On August 23, 2025, Reyna made a permanent move to Borussia Mönchengladbach until 2028 for around €7 million. He scored his first goal for the club in stoppage time on May 9, 2026.

Reyna made his senior national team debut on November 12, 2020, a day before his 18th birthday. He won the CONCACAF Nations League in 2021, 2023, and 2024, winning the best player overall of the latter.

His older brother, Jack, died of brain cancer in 2012 at the age of 13. Reyna declared his intent to play for the United States in a March 2020 interview.
