Carlos Manuel Brito Leal de Queiroz ComIH was born on 1 March 1953 in Portuguese Mozambique. He is a Portuguese association football manager who currently manages the Ghana national team.
๐ National Team Management
Queiroz has managed Portugal, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Iran, Colombia, Egypt, Qatar, and Oman. He led South Africa (2002), Portugal (2010), and Iran (2014, 2018, 2022) to the FIFA World Cup.
He is the longest-serving manager in Iran national team history, serving almost eight years between 2011 and 2019. He is the only manager to lead Iran at three consecutive World Cups.
โฝ Club and Assistant Roles
At club level, he managed Sporting CP, the NY/NJ MetroStars, and Real Madrid. He also had two spells as Alex Fergusonโs assistant manager at Manchester United.
In 1998, Queiroz authored the Q-Report, detailing plans to enhance footballer development in the United States. He coached Portugalโs under-20 team to two FIFA World Youth Championship wins in 1989 and 1991.
๐ Early Career and Education
Queiroz was a professional goalkeeper in Mozambique before turning to management. He moved to Portugal after Mozambiqueโs independence in 1975 and is a graduate of the University of Lisbon.
In 1984, he became assistant manager of Estoril-Praia. He was appointed Portugal national team coach in 1991, with a record of 14 wins in 31 matches.

Queiroz agreed to coach Iran in April 2011. Iran qualified for the 2014 World Cup as group winners, drawing 0โ0 with Nigeria and losing 1โ0 to Argentina before a 3โ1 defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He extended his contract until the 2018 World Cup. Iran beat Morocco 1โ0, lost 1โ0 to Spain, and drew 1โ1 with Portugal, but did not advance to the knockout phase.
