Thomas Harold Massie is an American politician and engineer, born on January 13, 1971. He has been the United States representative for Kentucky’s 4th congressional district since 2012 and is a member of the Republican Party. The district primarily encompasses northeastern Kentucky, including parts of the Cincinnati area and eastern suburbs of Louisville.

Before his congressional role, Massie served as the judge-executive of Lewis County, Kentucky, from 2011 to 2012. He is recognized as a libertarian Republican and is affiliated with the Tea Party movement, which supported his candidacy in 2012.

During Donald Trump’s second presidency, Massie frequently criticized the president on various issues, including the release of the Epstein files and U.S. military actions. Trump has indicated plans to challenge Massie in the 2026 primaries.
Massie was born in Huntington, West Virginia, and raised in Vanceburg, Kentucky. He earned a BSc in electrical engineering in 1993 and a MSc in mechanical engineering in 1996 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

While at MIT, Massie participated in the Solar Electric Vehicle Team and drove the team’s car, Galaxy, in the 1990 GM Sunrayce. He also won MIT’s Design Competition in 1992, which inspired his desire to attend MIT.

In 1993, Massie co-founded SensAble Devices Inc., which developed technology allowing users to feel digital objects. He raised significant venture capital and obtained numerous patents before selling the company in 2003.
